What type of life insurance policy does the military offer?

in Life Insurance

Life Insurance
Ashley asked:

I’m talking about the Army, in particular. Is it term life insurance, or permanent life insurance? As of right now, my husband’s job doesn’t put him on the front lines. I already know how much life insurance the policy is for. I’m just trying to figure if I should get life insurance and for how much. Does anyone here know the difference between term and permanent life insurance? That’s all I need to know. Is his life insure term or permanent.

SGLI, which is the Servicemembers Group Life Insurance. Each service member is given a certain amount for free, but you can purchase higher plans if you choose to do so. Talk with your admin section about it. And it’s the same for all branches of service.

It’s called a rifle. If used correctly, it’ll save your live every time.

All the military has the same life insurance. It is called SGLI and is up to $400K for AD member while they are AD. There is no restrictions on the payment like there can be on other life insurance like cannot be claimed in 1 year, not on suicide, etc…. It is valid life insurance for the entire enlistment/commission in the military. If something does happen to them driving a car while on vacation it is still paid.

it lasts until he gets out. and it only applies to the military members, whilst doing their jobs. so if he comes home and dies, they wont cover him.
atleast not in Australia anyway.

SGLI is considered term life insurance, since it only covers active duty service members during the period of active duty. It can be converted to VGLI, which is permanent life insurance.
